Personal Insights
What matters most to us:
Helping cultivate public appreciation for performing arts through our technical expertise in sound production and sound reinforcement. We also strive to bring our community to life by supporting events and advocating for other organizations that share our core values.
What we learned:
As a company who thought they were a very socially-conscious business, the Assessment process was very educational. There are many practices we were unaware of that the Assessment opened our eyes to; we now have a guide to implement our values into formal practices.
What we did as a result:
We found that our initial score was well below the threshold for a certified B-Corp. However it gave us strong inspiration and some concrete ideas to act upon. For example, we invested in a collection of rechargeable batteries for all of our wireless sound and electronic equipment. This takes a little more preparation to ensure the batteries are charged, as fresh batteries are required at the start of each event. However, in the last year, this practice has reduced waste by saving hundreds of batteries from ending up in a landfill. Over the coming years, this small step will save thousands of disposable batteries, as well as the cost of buying disposable batteries (win/win!).
Features/Improvements we are looking forward to:
Not too sure on the Assessment itself. On our end, we are planning to run some of our auxiliary equipment (such as delay stacks on larger events and small sound systems) by solar power; that will require some mechanical innovation as well as capital investment.
