What Information Do We Collect?
We collect information from you when you register on our Site, provide responses on the B Impact Assessment (“Assessment”) and B Analytics (“Analytics”) platforms, subscribe to our newsletter, or fill out a form. The type of information we collect may include:
- Personal information such as your name, shipping/billing address, e-mail, and telephone number when you use the Assessment and Analytics platforms.
- Your username and password to allow access to these platforms.
- Customer data or customer company data which you store and use with us.
- User feedback, community discussions, chats and other interactions on our Site or with our staff.
B Lab will not disclose your name, email address or other personal information to third parties without your explicit consent, except as specified in this policy.
B Lab automatically receives and records some information from your browser or your mobile device when you visit the Site, such as your IP address or unique device identifier, cookies and data about which pages you visit on the Site. This information helps us analyze and understand how the Site works for our users and visitors, and provide a more personalized experience for users.
What We Do with Your Information
We use the information you enter into our platforms to produce the results you ask for, such as social and environmental impact reports, benchmarking reports that compare your results to other companies, and reports on how your company can improve its impact, etc.
We use your contact information to assist you in using our platforms or to help you correct a problem with the platform.
Identifiable information entered into the Assessment is considered confidential, and B Lab will take reasonable precautions to protect such identifiable information. B Lab limits access to your personal information to trained employees, affiliates, or contractors who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you to help measure, validate, and improve your company’s social and environmental impact.
In the event you have indicated that you are affiliated with, or a member of, one of our Standards Partners, B Lab reserves the right to share information with our Standards Partners (organizations that B Lab has entered into a relationship into with regards to the B Impact Assessment or B Analytics). This data allows our partners to understand the social and environmental impact of its portfolio of investments or users to a greater degree; they may use the data to report aggregate impact data to investors and plan educational programs that improve the users' impact. Data that is shared with our Standards Partners are subject to the privacy policies of our partners.
Separately, B Lab reserves the right to share aggregated and anonymous data on B Analytics and with universities, researchers, and partners, and in publications based upon data submitted through this system. This aggregated, anonymized data is shared to produce academic research that shares insight from the social and environmental impact behaviors of businesses. B Lab will use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure that Company data does not appear with identifiable information or in a benchmark group with less than five other data points.
Notwithstanding B Lab’s efforts, it is possible that partners, academics, readers or other users would be able to determine the identity of the Company based on the anonymous information. Except as otherwise provided in this agreement, B Lab shall have no liability to the Company or any other person in the event any person is able to determine the identity of the Company based on anonymous or aggregated information.
Users entering material into the Web Site are responsible for the content of that material. B Lab does not have responsibility for other Content, including the content of any messages or information posted by Users or others, or for the content of information accessible via direct or indirect hyperlinks from the Web Site. However, B Lab retains the right, which it may or may not exercise in its sole discretion, to review, edit, or delete other Content that B Lab deems to be illegal, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate.
Your Privacy Controls
We know our users value having control over their own information, and therefore B Lab gives you the choice of providing, editing or removing certain information, as well as choice over how we contact you.
You may change or correct your account information (except your username) on the Site. You may change or correct any data sharing settings with our partners through your account settings.
How Do We Protect Your Information?
The security of your personal information is important to us. Your account information is protected by a password. It is important that you protect against unauthorized access of your account and information by choosing your password carefully, and keeping your password and computer secure by signing out after using our services.
B Lab follows generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal and company information submitted to us, both during transmission and once B Lab receives it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
B Lab will retain your information only for as long as is necessary or your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We retain this information to provide services that you ask for such as how your company’s current impact data compares to your company’s historical impact. We also retain this information to make it easy for our company to comply with the impact reporting requirements of your investors or funders. If you no longer wish to use B Lab’s services or receive service-related messages, then you may close your account. To close your account, please contact us at email@example.com.

B Lab complies with the US - EU Safe Harbor framework and the US - Swiss Safe Harbor framework as set forth by the US Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use and retention of personal data from European Union member countries and Switzerland.
